Adult Day Focus Changes; Quality of Care Remains the Same
When the doors of Beckwith Family Adult Day Services opened in 2004, the program offered services to adult individuals 18 years of age and older from Boone County who were in need of assistance, support and involvement with others to be happy, active, productive and safe.

As of July 1, 2008, the age requirement of the program has changed. Adult Day is now serving individuals that are 55 years of age and older. “In the planning stages of the adult day program, the identified community need was a program that would serve our aging population,” says Kris Kvach, Beckwith Family Adult Day Services Supervisor. “However, it was decided in the initial start-up phase to involve all adults who may have a need in the Boone County area and to educate the public about Adult Day Services.” She adds, “As with any program, the focus can change, as did ours, and the decision was made to go back to our original intent of serving our aging community to allow for increased opportunities and choices for our community’s elderly population. This community is fortunate to have two day programs—a Day-Habilitation program like Genesis Development Day Discovery that serves the younger adults, as well as Beckwith Family Adult Day Services that serves the older adults. It is our hope that the needs of the younger adults will be better met by attending a program that is geared toward their age group allowing us to focus on the Seniors and their needs.”

Adult Day accepts participants who are in need of assistance during the day. Their needs may include healthcare, safety, socialization and hygiene-related assistance. The center’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Our revised goal is to serve the aging population,” says Kris. “We strive to identify the needs of each participant and provide them with the socialization and support they need to remain in their homes as long as possible.”
