Jean Iben Recognized as Shining Star

October 31, 2013

Congratulations to BCH volunteer Jean Iben for being recognized as one of the 2013 “Shining Stars” at the Iowa Hospital Association Annual meeting in October. Jean has been a member of the BCH Auxiliary for 10 years. She has accumulated over 5,000 hours of volunteer time and has served as past-president, chairman of the cafeteria volunteers, hostess in the atrium, volunteer for the monthly blood drive, and has delivered mail and flowers to patients. Jean averages three days a week as a volunteer and is always available to work on special projects such as the Flu Clinic, First Grade Tours, the Masquerade Jewelry Fair, and the Festival of Trees. Her dedication is further evident as she and family members have donated various crafted items in the past for both the BCH Auxiliary Chair Auction and the Annual Festival of Trees. Jean is a recent cancer survivor, and has returned to her volunteer work at the hospital while working part-time as a BCH cook and providing other services in the community. Her generosity of time and concern for others partnered with her commitment to volunteerism are values we appreciate in our “Shining Star.”
