Visitor Policy at BCH Updated, Effective 1/19/23

January 18, 2023

As of January 19, 2023, following is the current Visitor Policy at Boone County Hospital.

INPATIENT UNITS (MSP & Family Birth Center)

  • Visiting hours will be limited from 7am - 7pm.

  • BCH recommends admitted patients have only two visitors at a time. This does not include the support person for the laboring patient until after the birth of the baby or a support person needed to assist with a patient’s physical or mental well-being while receiving care. All other persons should be considered visitors and comply with the visitor guidelines.

  • Family Birth Center – siblings over the age of 2 will be allowed when accompanied by an adult.

  • All visitors must:

    • Be free from symptoms of illness, including fever, sore throat, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, and runny nose.

  • Covid-positive patients:  Visitors will be educated on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and will wear PPE while visiting the patient.

  • Patient receiving end of life cares – Visiting hours will not apply.

  • BCH reserves the right to ask people to leave the hospital if the number of visitors in a patient room or in a waiting area causes concerns.

ER/SDS

  • Emergency Department (ED) – Visitors will be allowed in the patient’s room to support the care of the patient. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the care team.

  • Surgical Services – Visitors will be allowed with the patient in the pre-surgical area, in waiting rooms through the duration of the patient’s surgery, and in the post-surgical care area until the patient is discharged home OR is admitted to an inpatient nursing unit.

Physician Clinics and Outpatient Departments:

  • No visitor restrictions are in place currently.

PLEASE NOTE: BCH will require everyone to wear masks when CDC’s Community Transmission Levels for Boone County are high.
