Volunteers Recognized; Shining Star

Boone County Hospital (BCH) Volunteer Auxiliary members were recognized at the Annual BCH Auxiliary Fall Meeting/Supper in the hospital Atrium on October 15th. The volunteers provide assistance in various areas throughout the hospital such as the Atrium information desk, Surgery, Gift Shop, Coffee Shop, hair care, and flower/mail delivery, as well as raise money for BCH through various events they sponsor throughout the year. Over the past year, the volunteers have donated 12,152 hours of their time to BCH. Volunteers recognized for their hours of service in 2011-12 were: 500 hours—Vicki Peitz, Jan Elsner, Judy Russell, Terri Knight; 1,000 hours—Dorothy Clifton, Jo Grimm, Ruth Shafer, Carol Keithley, Jo Zenor; 1,500 hours—Glenda Camelin, Janice Clark, Pearl Hammen, Lynn Johnson; 2,500 hours—Karen Anderson, Dani Kepler, Ethel Morgan, Bev Roe; 4,500 hours—Ruth Bryant; 5,000 hours—Joyce Gragg, Connie Kruck, Jean Iben; 6,500—Avenelle Olson; and 10,500—Dorothy Huffman. In addition, the Auxiliary assisted the hospital with nearly $13,000 in needed equipment and supplies, supported the Iowa Hospital Educational Research Fund with $200 for scholarships, and provided two $1,000 scholarships for BCH employees continuing their education in the medical field.

At the fall meeting, Dorothy Huffman was recognized for the 10,500 hours she has worked as a volunteer since you began volunteering at the hospital. In addition, she was recently recognized at the Annual Iowa Hospital Association Annual Meeting in Des Moines as a “Shining Star” and received an award. Each hospital had the opportunity to designate one outstanding, extra special volunteer from their hospital to be honored as a “Shining Star.”
