Position Description: Switchboard Clerk

Status: Weekend Package - 36 Hours per Week

Shift: Days / Evenings

Shift Time Schedule: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday


Education/Qualifications Required: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Or 1 to 3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Required: Customer Service, Computer and Phone Skills. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure and a pleasant and courteous attitude. Experience preferred but not required.

Duties Expected: Registration of Emergency Patients. Demographic Collection, Insurance Verification, POS Collections, Ambulance Dispatching, Paging Physicians, Incoming Phone Calls. Answers switchboard, 911 telephone line and Alcoholics Anonymous line in a timely manner, answer questions of caller according to hospital policy and direct calls to the appropriate department. Dispatches ambulance service calls and monitors the calls on a two way radio. Notifies Emergency room of incoming patients. Announces codes according to department policy. Along with other various duties.

Position Summary: Interview incoming patient or representative and enters accurate and current information required for admission into computer. Also responsible for directing incoming telephone calls by performing the required duties.
