Congratulations to Peg King, RN, Cardiac Rehab at Boone County Hospital (BCH), for receiving the 2023 Daisy Award.  Peg was presented the award at a special breakfast held in honor of Nurses Day/Week.  The Daisy award is given out yearly to a deserving BCH nurse.

A patient nominated Peg.  The patient said, “When I first started my cardiac rehab therapy after my heart attack, Peg was very understanding and described my rehab and the feelings I might experience after my attack…  She was so nice and let me cry on her shoulder.  She also gave me the encouragement that I needed to realize just because I now have a pacemaker, life is still good and will be better because I am taking my health more serious with goals to be healthier…  I have been able to talk to her on different occasions during our therapy class sessions about things that bother me and afterwards I feel better because she really listens and does not judge.”

The Daisy (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.  The Daisy Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999.  During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family.  When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
