Project Be the Light
Project Be the Light (PBTL) continues to illuminate lives across Boone County, thanks to the generosity, compassion, and creativity of our community. This initiative provides financial support to local families facing a cancer diagnosis, helping ease the burden of everyday expenses during an incredibly difficult time.
In 2024, Project Be the Light was selected as the Fund A Need focus at the BCH Foundation Harvest Festival. The response was extraordinary, with more than $67,000 raised in a single evening—a powerful demonstration of what is possible when our community comes together for a shared purpose.
That momentum has continued to grow. The Wig Out Pub Crawl, organized by Kelli Casper of Bottled Bliss, has become an annual tradition in both 2025 and 2026—bringing people together for fun, awareness, and fundraising in support of local families. In addition, events like the Glow Run/Walk, Silent Disco hosted by Boone Edge students, and support from the Boone High Track team through the Don Howard Invitational have all contributed to the growing impact of Project Be the Light.
Each of these efforts reflects something bigger than fundraising—they represent a community stepping forward to care for its own.
Get Involved: Host an Event
Project Be the Light thrives because of community-driven support. We encourage local businesses, schools, organizations, and individuals to host events, fundraisers, or awareness initiatives throughout Boone County.
From pub crawls and student-led events to athletic meets and community walks, there are countless ways to make a difference. Every event—big or small—helps ensure that families facing cancer have one less financial worry.

Project Be the Light: Strike Out Cancer
Monday, July 6 | During the Boone varsity baseball game
The Boone County Hospital Foundation is partnering with the Boone baseball team for Project Be the Light: Strike Out Cancer, a special night supporting Boone County families facing hardship due to a cancer diagnosis.
There are several ways to get involved:
- Order a Strike Out Cancer t-shirt
- Sponsor an inning
- Make a business strikeout pledge
- Make a donation to Project Be the Light
T-shirt orders are due by midnight on Monday, June 29.

Apply or Nominate a Family in Need
Project Be the Light provides financial assistance to Boone County families currently experiencing a cancer diagnosis.
Families may apply directly, or community members may nominate someone in need of support.
- Assistance helps cover essential expenses such as medical bills, utilities, housing, and more
- Funds are paid directly to service providers
- Applications are reviewed promptly, with follow-up within 10 business days
We have already been honored to support three families in Boone County, and we are ready and eager to help more.
