Falls are Preventable---NOT Inevitable.
In Iowa, falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury-related emergency room visits and hospitalizations (IDPH, 2019). Overall, each year 569 Iowans die from fall related injuries (IDPH, 2019). Over $262 million is spent for fall related hospitalizations each year in Iowa (IDPH, 2019).

A "Walk With Ease (WWE) Program" is one of those national programs being lifted up at this time to help provide some way for people to stay active and learn self-management skills. The WWE is listed on the highest tier evidence-based disease prevention program list for the following:

Build confidence in the ability to be physically active

Improve overall health among older adults

Target Audience: Community-dwelling older adults with arthritis and other chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and hypertension”

The Iowa Community HUB is a good resource that addresses various health-related social needs, ensuring at-risk populations receive the critical support they need to achieve better health outcomes and success. Falls prevention is a team effort.
