Dr. John Erickson Represents in Washington, D.C.

April 9, 2026

Dr. John Erickson, BCH Podiatrist, President of the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society, represented Iowa podiatrists in Washington, D.C. in early March during the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) House of Delegates and Legislative Conference.

While in D.C., Iowa podiatrists met with all members of Iowa’s congressional delegation in both the U.S. House and Senate to discuss key legislative priorities, including Medicare physician payment reform (HR 7520), prior authorization reform (The Seniors Act, S 1816/HR 3514), and the APMA Diabetic Shoe Bill. These meetings were productive, reinforcing the importance of continued advocacy to protect scope of practice and ensure fair reimbursement.

The APMA House of Delegates serves as the organization’s governing body, with state representation based on membership. Delegates addressed the future of podiatry, including education, training, scope of practice, and certification. The Legislative Conference followed, featuring discussions with federal legislators on the state of health care and proposed improvements, culminating in meetings on Capitol Hill with Iowa lawmakers and their staff.

Pictured alongside Dr. Erickson are Senator Chuck Grassley, Rep. Mariannette Miller‑Meeks, Lane Till (IPMS Executive Director), and Kenady Adams (a second‑year student at DMU).
