Dr. Tammy Chance Named IOMA Physician of the Year

May 9, 2016

Boone County Hospital is pleased to announce Tammy Chance, D.O., Emergency Services Medical Director and adjunct faculty member of Des Moines University, has been named the 2015 Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association (IOMA) Physician of the Year.

The officers and trustees of the IOMA select a physician of the year only when suitable candidates are presented for consideration.  The Association presents a “Physician of the Year” Award to a member osteopathic physician who has exhibited a notable commitment to his or her profession, patients and colleagues.

This year’s award was presented to Tammy Chance, D.O., a 1995 graduate of Des Moines University (DMU) – College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She did a traditional rotating internship and family practice residency at Des Moines General Hospital.  She is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians

Dr. Chance’s colleague writes, “She has always been eager to lend a helping hand and get involved when asked.  This year, she has done an excellent job serving as IOMA’s liaison to Des Moines University.  Her enthusiasm for the students is infectious.  She tends to think out of the box and has provided some excellent ideas for IOMA to explore in the near future”.

Dr. Chance received her award during the Upper Midwest Osteopathic Health Conference held at the end of April at the Embassy Suites on the River in Des Moines.

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association, founded in 1898 and headquartered in Des Moines, proudly represents osteopathic physicians in Iowa.  There are over 1,000 osteopathic physicians practicing in Iowa.  There are approximately 61,000 D.O.s in the United States practicing in all areas of medicine from neurology to sports medicine to dermatology to emergency medicine.
