New Radiology Scholarship Available

The Mary Lou and Morris G. Sloan, M.D., Radiology Endowment will benefit someone residing in Boone County or a relative of a current BCH employee who is interested in pursuing any type of career in the field of Radiology.

This endowment is in loving memory of Mary Lou and Morris G. Sloan MD, established by their four children and their families: Debbie Yossi (Denny), Alan Sloan, Bob Sloan (Linda) and Mark Sloan (B.K.).

Dr. Sloan received his BA degree (1951) and his M.D. Degree (1954) from The University of Iowa. While at the University of Iowa, he met and married Mary Lou Busching in 1952. After graduation, the couple lived in Lansing, Michigan, (1954-1955) while Morris completed his internship. Mary Lou and Morris moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army (1955-1957). The family then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where Morris was in Residency at Iowa Methodist Hospital (1957-1960). He became Board Certified in Radiology in 1961 with a nuclear medicine medallion. Morris practiced Radiology in Boone from 1960 until he retired in 1987. His Radiology group also served hospitals in the surrounding towns of Jefferson, Guthrie Center, Ames, Nevada, and Story City. Dr. Sloan was Past President of the Boone County Medical Society, and Past Chief of Staff at the Boone County Hospital. He held memberships in the AMA, American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and Iowa Medical Society.

Mary Lou graduated from the School of Business at The University of Iowa in 1954 and was awarded “Commerce Woman of the Year”. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mary Lou was a member of PEO and Lowell Club.

Mary Lou and Morris enjoyed many winters in Corpus Christi, Texas and loved traveling. They were members of the First United Methodist Church of Boone. Mary Lou passed away in 2012 from cerebellar ataxia, and Dr. Sloan passed away in 2025 from natural causes.

Preference will go to someone residing in Boone County or a family member of a current BCH employee who is interested in pursuing any type of career in the field of Radiology.

Applicants must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants are asked to include recent educational transcripts. Two letters of reference are required, and a letter of acceptance into a Radiology-related field.
