Roof/Helipad Replacement Underway at BCH
Have you noticed the commotion on the north side of Boone County Hospital (BCH)? The Hospital is in the process of replacing the entire helipad and roof on the northeast corner where the old helipad was located.
The helipad was built in 2000 with the new Hospital addition and has not been replaced. It’s in poor repair and is past due for a total replacement. The ice melt that has been used for years to keep the helipad clear in the winter has caused much of the damage. Concrete will be used on the new helipad. A new feature being added is hot water heat installed under the pad so ice melt will no longer need to be used. This will allow the helipad to have a much longer life expectancy. Graham Construction is heading up the project for BCH.
If everything stays on schedule, the final walkthrough and the reopening of the helipad back for use will be in early November.
In the meantime, helicopters from across the state will land in a temporary location located in the southwest corner parking lot of Marshall and Union, behind Boone County Family Medicine North, to pick up patients that need to be transported to another facility.
