The overall goal of rehabilitation is to enhance the quality of life for each patient and reduce the risk of further problems. Individualized goals are also created with each patient that pertain to their lifestyle and personal goals. Support is both emotional and physical. Support is provided by hospital staff including nurses, exercise specialist, pharmacists, registered dieticians, and respiratory therapists. Social camaraderie is developed during time in program by talking with others that may have a similar diagnosis.
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Half a million people die from CHD each year. Many people develop symptoms of CHD when they are in their 40's and 50's, interrupting a most productive time in life. Cardiac Rehabilitation is an important tool in the fight against CHD.
