Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is concerned with reducing scarring or disfigurement that may occur as a result of accidents, birth defects, or treatment for diseases, and involves the repair, replacement, and reconstruction of defects of form and function of the surface areas of the body along with the underlying tissue and bone. Many plastic surgeons also perform cosmetic surgery that is unrelated to medical conditions.
