The Boone County Public Health Department works closely with the Board of Health and other community initiatives/organizations to improve our community’s health, and is just one of many entities operated by Home Care Services of Boone County Hospital. Public Health is located in the Home Care Services building, just west of Boone County Hospital, and provides numerous services to our county in addition to those listed below.
The mission of our Immunization Clinic Program is to reduce or eliminate all vaccine-preventable diseases. The clinic is open to anyone under the age of 18 who needs vaccinations and is uninsured, under insured, or has Medicaid. Clinics are offered monthly and are also offered in the school systems. Special clinics are held for influenza vaccine and pneumovax, but the pneumovax can be administered at any time. For more information or for clinic dates and times, contact Kerry at (515) 432-1127.
Communicable Disease Control
Public Health nurses play a significant role in controlling health hazards and communicable diseases. Public Health works with the Iowa Department of Public Health and area physicians to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Care for Yourself Program
Boone County Public Health offers the Care for Yourself Program which is part of a national program that helps reduce the risks from breast, cervical, and cardiovascular health issues. To reduce your risk, you must have screening exams. The program has local staff that can help you schedule clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams, pap tests, and height and weight measurements. There are eligibility requirements. You may enroll for services if you are between the ages of 40 to 64 years of age, are 65 years or older and have not enrolled in Medicare Part B, are under 40 years old and have a breast lump or other signs of breast cancer, and meet certain income guidelines.
